Shouyu Chong is a PhD Student at King's College London (KCL), funded by the Nash Research Scholarship and the Frances Paterson Scholarship. He holds concurrent roles as a Research Fellow at Singapore Management University's Singapore International Dispute Resolution Academy (SIDRA) and a Teaching Fellow at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). His research focuses on private international law, cross-border ADR mechanisms, and the Singapore Convention on Mediation. He co-authored the leading academic commentary on the Singapore Convention, now in its second edition (2022). His doctoral thesis examines the limits of party autonomy in enforcing forum selection clauses in commercial contracts.
Education: LLM in Corporate & Financial Services Law from the National University of Singapore (2018). Previous roles include Research Consultant and Research Associate at SIDRA, where he contributed to studies on international mediation and dispute resolution.
Research interests span private international law, international commercial arbitration, and comparative law of obligations. His work has been recognized with awards including the Society of Construction Law Hudson Prize (2020 Commendation, 2023 2nd Prize) and the Singapore Management University Social Science Research Fellowship.
Teaching includes modules on Trusts and International Commercial Law at KCL. He is affiliated with SIDRA and the Centre of Construction Law & Dispute Resolution, contributing to empirical research on cross-border dispute resolution preferences and satisfaction levels.
