About
Dr. Shooka Karimpour is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at York University’s Lassonde School of Engineering, leading the Environmental HydroDynamics (EHD) lab since 2019. She holds a P.Eng designation and completed her Ph.D. at McGill University (2015), followed by postdocs at McGill and UQAM.
Her research focuses on turbulent mixing, multi-phase flows, and microplastic transport in aquatic systems. Key areas include environmental hydrodynamics, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and turbulent instability modeling. Recent studies investigate microplastic mobility, biofouling effects, and surge wave impacts on pollutant transport.
Dr. Karimpour has published in top-tier journals like Journal of Fluid Mechanics and Environmental Science & Technology, and has received the Kefeer Medal from the Canadian Society of Civil Engineering. Her teaching includes Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulic Structures, and Computational Hydrodynamics.
Her work integrates numerical simulations and experimental methods to address challenges in water quality, infrastructure safety, and marine pollution. The EHD lab collaborates on projects involving microplastic distribution, turbulent flow dynamics, and environmental fate modeling.
