Shon Phillips

Shon Phillips is a full-time Lecturer at Southern Methodist University (SMU), where she teaches post-secondary writing courses and works in the SMU Writing Center. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from The University of Texas at Austin, an M.A. in Literature from Southern New Hampshire University, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Liberal Studies at SMU.

Teaching & Research: Phillips focuses on making writing education relevant and engaging through real-world applications. Her research interests include African American literature, Victorian literature, short stories by Kate Chopin, and novels by Jane Austen. She emphasizes critical thinking and student rapport-building in her teaching approach.

Professional Roles: In addition to teaching WRTR 1312 and other courses, she actively contributes to SMU’s Writing Center. Her work bridges pedagogical innovation with literary analysis.

Personal: Phillips has four sons and enjoys creative writing, podcasting, and battle-rapping with her children in her free time.
