Shivan Khullar

Shivan Khullar is a Flatiron Research Fellow (FRF) at the Center for Computational Astrophysics, Flatiron Institute. He previously obtained his PhD from the University of Toronto and maintains active research contributions in computational astrophysics.

Dr. Khullar's research focuses on simulating the universe with particular emphasis on star formation processes. His work examines the role of turbulence, magnetic fields and stellar feedback in star formation across multiple scales from galactic disks to protoplanetary disks. He investigates both nearby and early universe star formation phenomena using advanced computational techniques. His methodological expertise includes developing numerical algorithms for astrophysical simulations, with special attention to magnetohydrodynamics and density probability distribution functions in star-forming regions.

His research output includes multiple computational tools that have become resources for the astrophysics community, including PDF_Fit for density PDF analysis, CloudTracker for particle tracking in fluid simulations, and various utilities for the GIZMO simulation framework. These tools support investigations into star formation efficiency, cloud evolution, and feedback processes in galactic environments.

Dr. Khullar maintains an active development presence with significant contributions to open-source astrophysics software, demonstrating ongoing engagement with computational methods and simulation techniques in his field.
