Dr Shirley Lewis is a Research Associate at the School of Allied Health Professions, Nursing and Midwifery, University of Sheffield. She joined the university in 2024 and has previously held research roles at the University of Huddersfield and the University of Oxford.
Her research focuses on children and adults affected by involvement with children’s social care, particularly exploring experiences of birth parents in adoption processes. She has contributed to studies on perinatal care models for women with drug dependencies and is a registered social worker with practical experience in family and child services.
Her recent publications highlight themes in adoption & fostering, child welfare, and perinatal healthcare policies. She is affiliated with the Willow Study and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to address inequalities in social care systems.
