Dr Shirley Atkinson is a Visiting Research Fellow at the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics, University of Plymouth. She transitioned from a software developer career (1992-2005) to academia, teaching software development modules using C#, JavaScript, Node.js, and PHP since 2005. She leads modules on API software development, web development, and project management while serving as Programme Manager for BSc (Hons) Software Engineering at NSBM.

- Former Athena SWAN champion and faculty committee member for diversity/inclusion
Her technical focus includes web technologies, ASP.NET, agile methodologies, and server-side programming. She coordinates Computing At Schools Level 1 Master teachers CPD and supports regional master teachers in the South West.
