Shi Xu

Dr. Shi (Tracy) Xu is an Associate Professor at the University of Surrey's Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management, part of the Surrey Business School. She serves as Co-Director of the Future of Work Research Centre and Theme Leader for Future of Work and Labour Mobilities in the COVE Research Centre. With a PhD from Penn State University, her research focuses on employee wellbeing, leadership, and turnover in hospitality, emphasizing organizational behavior and HRM. She has over 50 journal articles and received multiple awards, including the Emerald Literati Award (2021) and Best Paper Awards at EuroCHRIE and academic conferences.

Her research explores workplace dynamics, gig economy well-being, AI adoption, and diversity/inclusion. Funded projects include Horizon Europe, ESRC UKRI, and the National Social Science Fund of China. She advises EuroCHRIE and edits Cornell Hospitality Quarterly. Current PhD students focus on topics like abusive supervision, leadership, and CSR.

Teaching spans strategic hotel management, HR practices, and research methodology. Key grants include UNWTO, Research England, and FASS Pump-priming. She advocates for inclusive tech solutions and employee well-being, partnering with organizations to enhance performance and resilience.
