Sherry Velasco

Sherry Velasco is a Professor at the University of Southern California, affiliated with the departments of Latin American and Iberian Cultures and Gender Studies. Her research bridges historical and cultural analyses with gender and queer theory.

• Early Modern women’s narrative
• Gender studies

• Visual cultural studies

Publications: A prolific scholar, Velasco has authored four influential monographs exploring marginalized identities in early modern Spain, including Lesbians in Early Modern Spain (2011) and The Lieutenant Nun (2000). Her work examines intersections of gender, sexuality, and cultural production.
