Shelley Koch is a Professor of Sociology and Chair of the Sociology Department at Emory & Henry College. She has taught there since 2010, focusing on gender, food studies, environmental sociology, and consumer society. Koch holds a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, with honors in Sociology.

Her research emphasizes intersections of gender, food systems, and consumer behavior. She authored three books examining grocery shopping dynamics (2012), masculinity and food (2017), and gender’s role in the food system (2019). Her work has appeared in journals like Social Currents and American Journal of Economics and Sociology.
Awarded the HOPE Award (2018) for contributions to sustainable local food systems, she also maintains a garden and raises chickens. Teaching specialties include environmental sociology, consumer society, and qualitative research methods. She coordinates courses in Women and Gender Studies and Food Studies programs.
