Dr. Sheila Crow, Ph.D., serves as the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center College of Medicine. With 30 years of experience in academic medicine, Dr. Crow leads initiatives focused on faculty support throughout their careers at the institution, emphasizing thoughtful engagement strategies that evolve across the academic work lifespan.
Dr. Crow's career at OU College of Medicine began in 1989 as a research assistant in the Center on Child Abuse and Neglect in the Department of Pediatrics. She progressed through various administrative roles including Assistant Director of CCAN (1996), Director of the Palliative Care Program, and multiple positions in the Office of Medical Education. She served as Director of Operations for the Clinical Skills Education and Testing Center before moving to the college's Tulsa campus in 2011 where she held positions as Assistant and Associate Dean for Curriculum and Faculty Affairs. Most recently, she served as Assistant Vice President at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (2018-2020).
Dr. Crow's professional focus centers on creating comprehensive faculty support systems that address needs at every career stage. Her current work emphasizes developing longitudinal onboarding processes for faculty, supporting faculty through promotion and tenure processes, and implementing wellness initiatives to address the high rates of faculty burnout in medical schools, which have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. She also works with the Office of Access and Community Engagement to promote faculty diversity.
Dr. Crow has served as a consultant in Undergraduate Medical Education for the Association of American Medical Colleges, the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and the California University of Science and Medicine, School of Medicine. Her expertise across the continuum of medical education has been recognized by Executive Dean John Zubialde, M.D., who noted her value to the college's growing emphasis on faculty support and development.
