Sheila Benson is an Associate Professor of English and serves as Associate Head and English Section Coordinator at the University of Northern Iowa's College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences. She mentors future middle and high school English language arts teachers and teaches courses in the Teaching English in Secondary Schools MA program.

- BA in English Education with French teaching minor (1994) from Brigham Young University
Her research focuses on how English curricula adapt to school working conditions. She has expertise in rhetoric and composition, 19th century British literature (particularly Charles Dickens and Robert Browning), literary theory, and cultural studies.
She advises the University of Northern Iowa Council of Teachers of English (UNICoTE) and acts as academic adviser for English teaching majors.
In her personal time, she engages in trail running, harp playing with the Wartburg Community Symphony Orchestra, greyhound walking, and managing her two cats' book-related mischief.
