Sheehan Fisher

Sheehan Fisher serves as the Associate Dean for the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Success at The Graduate School, Northwestern University, and is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Feinberg School of Medicine. He joined The Graduate School in Spring 2023 and directs the Fathers’ Mental Health Specialty Clinic, specializing in perinatal mental health with emphasis on paternal mental health and performance optimization for high-pressure professions.

Dr. Fisher earned his doctorate from the University of Iowa and completed his internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern University.

His research focuses on how both parents' perinatal mental health affects infant and child health outcomes, pioneering the integration of fathers into parental mental health studies to differentiate their unique impacts. He also investigates performance optimization for high-stress professionals and advocates for public policies supporting diverse perinatal family dynamics through board roles with the International Marcé Society and Marcé of North America.

Dr. Fisher has received significant recognition including:

• 2021 Marcé of North America Early Career Award for maternal/paternal perinatal mental health research
• 2022 Crain’s Chicago Business Notable Black Leaders and Executives for mental health advocacy in the Black community

He actively contributes to public discourse through OpEds on perinatal mental health across populations and serves as clinical director of the Fathers’ Mental Health Specialty Clinic, which provides specialized care and advances research on paternal mental health challenges.
