Shawnna Helf

Dr. Shawnna Helf is a Professor of Literacy in the College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences at Winthrop University. She also serves as Program Director for the M.Ed. in Literacy program, which she has led since joining Winthrop in 2009. Her academic background includes a Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and an M.A. in Elementary Education from West Virginia University.

Dr. Helf's work focuses on improving literacy outcomes through systematic interventions and curriculum design. Prior to her academic career, she worked as a research associate, curriculum coach, and elementary education teacher, bringing practical experience to her teaching and leadership roles.
