Shawkat Toorawa is the Brand Blanshard Professor of Near Eastern Languages & Civilizations and Professor of Comparative Literature at Yale University. His academic career spans decades, with prior roles at Duke University, Cornell University, and the University of Mauritius. He specializes in classical Arabic literature, Abbasid Baghdad's literary culture, and Qur’anic studies.
