Shaun Treweek

Shaun Treweek is Chair in Health Services Research at the University of Aberdeen, School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition. With a background in physics and bioengineering, he now focuses on pragmatic clinical trial design, recruitment/retention interventions, complex interventions, and evidence communication.

• Current roles: Editor-in-Chief of Trials, co-chair of MRC-NIHR Trial Methodology Research Partnership Inclusivity Subgroup

Research Highlights:

• Leading Trial Forge initiative to systematize trial design decisions
• Principal investigator for ActWELL (breast screening lifestyle intervention), STEER (retention strategies), and OPTIMISTIC (myotonic dystrophy trial)
• Key methodological interests: PRECIS-2/3 tool development, SWAT research, ethnic diversity in trials

Recent Publications demonstrate cross-disciplinary work in trial efficiency, equity in recruitment, and digital health methods. Over 200 peer-reviewed articles in journals like Trials, BMC Medical Research Methodology, and BMJ Open.
