Shashank V. Joshi

Shashank V. Joshi, MD, is a Professor (Teaching) in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine, with courtesy appointments in Pediatrics and the Graduate School of Education. He serves as Director of the Triple Board Residency in Pediatrics, General Psychiatry, and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, and Director of School Mental Health at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Since September 2023, he holds the role of Senior Associate Vice Provost for Academic Well-being in the Office of the Vice Provost of Undergraduate Education (VPUE). His research focuses on school mental health, suicide prevention, cultural aspects of pediatric care, and wellbeing promotion in youth. He leads the K12 Toolkit for Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention and co-edited the book Thinking About Prescribing: The Psychology of Psychopharmacology with Diverse Youth & Families. Dr. Joshi holds leadership roles in organizations like the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and the National Center on School Mental Health (NCSMH).

Education: BA in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, MD from Baylor College of Medicine, and residencies at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is a Distinguished Fellow of AACAP and has received multiple awards for teaching, mentorship, and service, including the Polymath Award and Roberts Award.

Research Interests include school-based mental health interventions, cultural competency, and faculty development in medical education. He directs initiatives like Project Safety Net and the HEARD Alliance, addressing suicide prevention and mental health access in schools.

Recent publications emphasize suicide prevention strategies, social media’s role in youth mental health, and educator training simulations. His work bridges academic and community partnerships to improve mental health outcomes for diverse populations.
