Sharon Young

Sharon Young is an Assistant Professor at the University of Southern Mississippi, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (2016, 2010) and a B.S. in Anthropology from the University of California-Riverside (2005). Her research focuses on medical anthropology, reproductive health, maternal health, and placentophagy, exploring cross-cultural practices, physiological impacts, and evolutionary perspectives.

Sharon’s research investigates the intersection of human behavior, cultural practices, and biological adaptation. She has published extensively on placentophagy, analyzing its hormonal and nutritional composition, maternal health impacts, and cultural significance. Her work on peripartum sociosexuality and human-pet dynamics highlights evolutionary and cross-cultural frameworks. Recent articles examine pregnancy advice frameworks, maternal trust, and reproductive decision-making.
