Professor Sharon Lewin is the inaugural Director of the Doherty Institute, a Professor of Medicine at The University of Melbourne, and a NHMRC Practitioner Fellow. Her work spans basic, translational, and clinical research to find a cure for HIV and understand HIV-hepatitis B interactions.
- Research Interests include HIV latency models, latency-reversing agents, clinical trials for HIV cure interventions, and co-infections like HIV-HBV. She leads the International AIDS Society’s Towards an HIV Cure initiative and the NHMRC CRE APPRISE for infectious disease emergency preparedness.
- Recent Articles focus on CRISPR-based HBV therapies, HIV transmission dynamics in Australia, optimized vaccine protocols for immunocompromised populations, and liver disease progression in co-infected patients.
