Sharon Haar is the Emil Lorch Collegiate Professor of Architecture at the University of Michigan's Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. She has previously held academic leadership positions at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Parsons School of Design, and served as visiting faculty at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.
Her research focuses on equitable and affordable housing through the Collective for Equitable Housing (CEH) she co-founded in 2021. This initiative bridges architecture, urban design, and planning to address housing injustice in Michigan and beyond. She also explores intersections between higher education and urban space, particularly campus evolution, and architectural practices centered on social activism.
Professor Haar has received grants from major institutions including the National Science Foundation, Graham Foundation, and Fannie Mae Foundation. She contributes to academic discourse through publications in the Journal of Architectural Education and other leading journals, with notable books like The City as Campus and Schools for Cities.
