Sharon Emmerichs is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Alaska. She holds dual bachelor's degrees from the University of New Mexico (Communicative Disorders) and the University of Oregon (English Literature), along with a MA and Ph.D. in English from the University of Missouri. Her primary research focuses on early modern drama, poetry, and prose with emphases on Shakespeare, feminist theory, and ecocritical studies, while her secondary specialization spans medieval literature from Beowulf to Milton.
Her research explores the interplay between humans and environments in early modern contexts, particularly through analyses of landscape in Shakespeare's works. She has published on topics such as moral degradation through landscape transgression and resurrection symbolism in Romeo and Juliet. Current projects include a book examining Shakespeare's use of the seven deadly sins as tools for communal connection.
Dr. Emmerichs teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Shakespeare, Renaissance literature, drama, and writing, employing multimedia and interdisciplinary approaches. She has authored novels under a pseudonym and is completing additional literary works.
