Shantel Farnan

Dr. Shantel Farnan serves as Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Special Education programs at Northwest Missouri State University's School of Education. With 12 years of experience as a Special Education Director, she brings extensive practical knowledge to teacher preparation.

Her teaching focuses on special education law and procedures, IDEA/Section 504 compliance, instructional accommodations, transition planning, and inclusive practices. Research interests address contemporary issues including minority over-representation, collaborative models, and discipline disparities in special education.

Dr. Farnan has presented nationally on preservice teacher collaboration and serves as communications editor for the Teacher Education Division of the Council for Exceptional Children. Her leadership includes establishing the Area Cooperative for Educational Support (ACES) alternative school through a $453,000 grant initiative.
