Shantalea Johns

Shantalea Johns is Assistant Professor - Clinical and Director of Continuing Education at Wayne State University's School of Social Work. Her community-engaged scholarship examines prevention interventions for African American youth, neurobiology of trauma, and mental health determinants in urban communities.

Research focuses on:

• Behavioral health disparities and trauma recovery
• Protective factors for African American youth
• Mental health support in educational settings
• Workplace wellness strategies

Publications demonstrate consistent focus on mental health interventions for marginalized populations, particularly African American adolescents experiencing adverse experiences. Her work employs mixed-methods approaches to examine protective factors in educational and family contexts.
