Shannon Ronca, PhD, MPH, is an Assistant Professor at the Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics-Tropical Medicine, and Director of the Feigin ABSL-3 Laboratory. She holds a PhD and MPH from the University of Texas Medical Branch and a BS from Cedar Crest College. Her professional interests include virus-host interactions, viral pathogenesis, neurological complications of viral infections, and infectious disease epidemiology.
Her research focuses on understanding viral pathogenesis and epidemiology, particularly regarding West Nile virus and other emerging pathogens. She has contributed to studies on viral viability on surfaces, cytokine responses in patients, and optimizing diagnostic methods for viruses like Zika and West Nile. Her work also extends to public health surveillance and neglected tropical diseases.
Ronca leads the Feigin ABSL-3 Laboratory, which supports advanced virology research. Her articles highlight contributions to translational virology, with a focus on clinical and epidemiological aspects of viral infections.
