Shane Smith

Shane Smith is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Steinhardt Teacher Residency Program at New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. His work focuses on preparing educators to support students with learning and behavioral disabilities, combining his K-12 teaching experience with higher education expertise.

Dr. Smith holds a PhD in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, following a Bachelors in Education and a Masters in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. His prior roles include Assistant Professor at the University of New Haven and leadership in developing their special education program.

His research emphasizes postsecondary transitions for students with disabilities, mathematics education for high-incidence disability populations, and inclusive teacher preparation strategies. He advocates for child-centered educational environments that address diverse learning needs through reflective practice and problem-solving approaches.
