Shane Mickey

Shane Mickey is an Associate Professor of Art at Mars Hill University, where he chairs the Fine Arts program and directs the Mars Hill Center for Ceramic Arts. He also serves as Interim Chair of Theatre Arts.

• BFA in Ceramics from Frostburg State University
• MFA in Ceramics from the University of Tennessee

His research focuses on ceramics, kiln construction, and studio art, with a national exhibition record at galleries like Red Lodge and AKAR. He has built kilns for institutions such as Penland School of Crafts and the Armory Art Center.

Key activities include co-writing/receiving grants from the Windgate Foundation for ceramic studio upgrades and founding the Spruce Pine Potters Market. He is affiliated with the Southern Highland Craft Guild and American Craft Council.
