Seán Patrick Donlan is a Professor in the Faculty of Law at Thompson Rivers University (TRU), where he served as Associate Dean from 2018-2022. He holds a JD from Louisiana State University and a PhD from Trinity College Dublin. Previously, he taught at the University of Limerick (2002-2015) and the University of the South Pacific (2016-2018), with additional roles in Canada, France, Ireland, Italy, and Malta.
His research focuses on legal history, comparative law, legal theory, Irish history, politics, and film. Notable works include *A Companion to Western Legal Traditions* (2023) and *The Laws and Other Legalities of Ireland, 1689–1850* (2024). He co-founded the European Society for Comparative Legal History and is an Associate Member of the International Academy of Comparative Law.
Donlan has edited journals like *Comparative Legal History* and series such as the *Juris Diversitas Book Series*. His work explores legal hybridity, mixed jurisdictions, and historical legal systems, with a particular emphasis on Ireland and colonial contexts.
