Seán Doherty

Dr. Seán Doherty is a Lecturer in Music at Dublin City University's School of Theology, Philosophy, and Music. He coordinates modules on harmony, counterpoint, composition, and musicology for the BRelEd program and teaches composition/arranging in the MA in Choral Studies. He supervises PhD students in musicology and composition.

His research combines composition and musicology, with expertise in Irish traditional music. As a composer, his works are performed internationally.

Dr. Doherty was introduced to music through Irish fiddle traditions. He holds a Ph.D. from Trinity College Dublin and a music degree from St. John’s College, Cambridge.
