Sevil Erdoğan

Dr. Sevil Erdoğan is an Assistant Professor in the Veterinary Department of Keşan Vocational College at Trakya University, Edirne, Turkey. She serves as Department Head and coordinates both the Erasmus and Farabi Units at the vocational school. With over 15 years of academic experience, Dr. Erdoğan has established herself as a leading researcher in natural biomaterials, particularly chitin and chitosan.

Dr. Erdoğan's educational background includes:

• Master's Degree in Biology from Trakya University (2005)
• PhD in Biology from Trakya University (2010)

Dr. Erdoğan's primary research focuses on natural biomaterials, especially chitin and chitosan. Her work spans extraction techniques from diverse organisms including marine invertebrates, insects, and fungi, as well as applications in textiles, drug delivery systems, and biomedical engineering. She has made significant contributions to understanding the physicochemical properties of chitin structures across different biological sources and has pioneered applications in flame retardancy, antimicrobial textiles, and controlled drug release systems.

Analysis of Dr. Erdoğan's recent publications reveals a strong trajectory toward increasingly sophisticated biomaterial applications. While early work focused on fundamental characterization of chitin from various sources, her recent research has expanded into advanced hydrogel systems for drug delivery, functional textile coatings, and marine bioactive compound extraction. Dr. Erdoğan has successfully supervised multiple graduate students and managed numerous research projects funded by TÜBAP and TÜBİTAK. Her current projects include "Extraction and Characterization of Bioactive Compounds from Anthozoa, Porifera, Tunicata and Bryozoa Species in the Dardanelles," along with research on chitosan-based hydrogels for antiviral drug delivery and inflammatory bowel disease treatment.

Dr. Erdoğan actively contributes to her field through manuscript reviewing for prestigious journals including International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, Journal of Food Science, and Food Biophysics, demonstrating her recognized expertise in biomaterials science.
