Seth Tuler

Seth Tuler is an Associate Professor in The Global School at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), with affiliations in Environmental & Sustainability Studies and International & Global Studies. He has been at WPI since 2001, serving as teacher, advisor, and co-director of the Global Lab and Boston Project Center. His research focuses on risk governance, public participation in policy, and climate adaptation planning, with extensive experience in nuclear waste management, oil spill response, and regional land-use planning.

Education: PhD in Environmental Science and Policy (Clark University, 1996), MS in Technology & Policy (MIT, 1987), BA in Mathematics (University of Chicago, 1984). Professional highlights include roles on National Academies committees, co-authoring reports for President Obama’s Blue Ribbon Commission, and Fulbright Scholarship in Thailand (2008). He has advised over 100 student projects, emphasizing practical applications of sustainability and resilience strategies.

Key research interests include: risk decision-making frameworks, community engagement in infrastructure siting, and FEW (Food-Energy-Water) nexus modeling. Recent work explores climate adaptation in coastal cities and the human dimensions of energy transitions. His collaborative projects with institutions like NOAA and the Nuclear Waste Technical Review Board highlight his commitment to bridging academic research with real-world policy challenges.
