Seth Mehl

Dr Seth Mehl is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Humanities at the University of Sheffield's School of History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities. He is Co-Director of the Centre for Equity and Inclusion and leads concept modelling research through the Linguistic DNA project.

• Teaches in corpus linguistics, semantics, and digital culture
• Collaborates with the BBC and Oxford English Dictionary
• Focuses on community archiving in rural South Africa

His research explores contested meanings in public discourse, such as decolonisation, gentrification, and white, using corpus-based methods. He also investigates community-led co-production in archiving practices, supporting marginalized communities and PhD students. Recent publications span corpus semantics, digital humanities, and environmental sustainability, with funding from the AHRC and Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

He received the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Learning and Teaching in Collaborative Activities in 2022 for contributions to MA programs in Digital Culture and Cultural Data Management. His work bridges linguistics, digital humanities, and social justice, with a focus on concept modelling and semantic change.
