Seth Graebner is an Associate Professor of French and Global Studies at Washington University, where he also serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies for Global Studies and Coordinator for European Studies and Global Cultural Studies concentrations. He earned his PhD in French Literature from Harvard University.
His research examines cultural intersections between France, North Africa, and the Caribbean, with particular focus on urban landscapes, colonial legacies, and literary representations of identity. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on Francophone African/Caribbean literature, globalization, and immigration in European contexts.
As Chair of the Francophone Faculty Group, he promotes interdisciplinary scholarship connecting French studies with global cultural analysis. His publications explore nostalgia in Algerian literature and nineteenth-century Mediterranean urban narratives.
