Seth Gitner is a tenured Associate Professor at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, with a dual appointment in the Department of Magazine, News and Digital Journalism and the Department of Visual Communications. He specializes in teaching multimedia storytelling, web journalism, and visual news reporting, emphasizing innovative digital and visual narrative techniques.
Before academia, Gitner was an award-winning multimedia editor and photojournalist at newspapers in Maryland and Virginia. He has pioneered integrating video and interactivity into legacy newsrooms, earning recognition such as the APME Convergence Award and NPPA’s Robert F. Garland Educator Award.
Gitner’s research focuses on bridging traditional storytelling principles with modern multimedia platforms. His work includes authoring the textbook Multimedia Storytelling for Digital Communicators in a Multiplatform World, now in its second edition, and co-directing the NPPA Multimedia Immersion Workshop. He advises the award-winning student publication The NewsHouse and holds leadership roles in professional organizations like AEJMC and NPPA.
