Sergio Villalobos-Ruminott

Sergio Villalobos-Ruminott is a Professor of Spanish and Latin American Literature at the University of Michigan, affiliated with the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. He chairs the Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion Committee and the MLA 20th/21st Century Latin American Literature Committee. Prior to U-M, he held positions at the University of Arkansas and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh (2003).

His research explores literary, visual, and cultural forms of imagination in modern/contemporary Latin America, employing interdisciplinary methods rooted in continental philosophy and psychoanalysis. Key themes include posthegemony, infrapolitics, and socio-political critique.

Recent publications include monographs like La desarticulación (2019) and articles in journals such as Debats and TRANSMODERNITY. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with historical analysis of cultural production in Latin America.
