Sergio Puig is a Professor of Law and Director of the International Trade and Business Law Program at the University of Arizona's James E. Rogers College of Law. He has previously held lecturing positions at Duke Law School and Stanford Law School, and was a teaching fellow in the Program in International Legal Studies (SPILS) from 2011 to 2014.
His research focuses on international trade law, investment law, and arbitration, with a particular interest in the asymmetry of investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) mechanisms and the use of data-driven approaches in legal scholarship. He co-founded tradelab.org, a platform to support law school clinics in trade and investment law matters.
His recent publications explore trends in international investment law and trade agreements, including the US-China Phase One Trade Agreement and the USMCA replacing NAFTA. These works highlight evolving dynamics in international economic law and policy analysis.
