About
Serge Marek is an Associate Professor of Geography and Urban Studies in the Department of History, Humanities, and International Studies at Hawaiʻi Pacific University's College of Liberal Arts. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Geography from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa and a B.A. in Geography from Syracuse University. Dr. Marek has lived and worked in Honolulu since 1990 and currently directs the Master of Arts in Sustainability program at HPU.
His primary research interests include:
- Indigenous urbanization and urbanism in Auckland, Aotearoa-NZ, and Honolulu, Hawaiʻi
- Sustainable urban development in Honolulu's Kakaʻako district
- Ontologically designed indigenous buildings on university campuses
Dr. Marek is actively involved in academic leadership and student engagement. He serves as Co-Faculty Advisor for HPU’s Leaders for a Sustainable Future club and as Vice Chair of HPU's Faculty Assembly & Senate, contributing to institutional governance and sustainability initiatives.
