Sequina DuBose

Dr. Sequina DuBose is an Assistant Professor of Classical and Contemporary Voice and Coordinator of the Musical Theatre Certificate Program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her research focuses on 21st-century hybrid vocal literature, blending classical music with contemporary genres, folk traditions, and music from the African diaspora. She actively performs and advocates for contemporary works, including premieres like Nightingale and the Tower and Elegy: In Memoriam of the Emanuel Nine. She holds a DMA in Vocal Pedagogy from the University of Maryland, College Park.

Boykin’s Moments in Sonder and 2022 debut album Blurred Lines exemplify her focus on hybrid vocal works. She has premiered roles in chamber operas such as Companionship and Tales from the Briar Patch.
