Semra Bakkaloglu

Semra Bakkaloglu is a Researcher at the Sustainable Gas Institute (SGI) within Imperial College London's Faculty of Engineering. Her role focuses on methane and environment-related research, particularly addressing emissions quantification and mitigation strategies. She holds a PhD in Earth Science from Royal Holloway, University of London (2018–2020), preceded by an MSc in Environmental Engineering & Earth Science from Clemson University (2014) as a Fulbright Scholar and dual BSc degrees in Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering from Middle East Technical University (2011–2012).

Her research interests span methane/hydrogen emissions, biomethane supply chains, negative emission technologies, energy system modeling, and life cycle assessment. Key affiliations include the Grantham Institute and the H2020 MSCA-ETN MEMO2 project. Semra has contributed to global methane isotope inventories and urban emission tracking across 12 cities. Her work emphasizes bridging scientific insights with policy, particularly for net-zero strategies.
