He has extensive experience in hydrography, including certification as a Category A hydrographer from the Netherlands, and has worked with institutions like the Dutch Navy, Royal Boskalis Westminster, and the Alfred Wegner Institute in Germany.
Dijkstra contributes to teaching advanced ocean mapping courses such as Adv Topics in Ocean Mapping, Geodesy & Positioning OceanMap, and Hydrographic Field Course. He has been involved in the development of the IHO/FIG/ICA Category A Course program and curriculum evaluation at the Center for Coastal & Ocean Mapping.
He has secured significant grants from the US Department of Commerce, NOAA, for the Continuation of the NOAA Joint Hydrographic Center at the University of New Hampshire, spanning 2015-2025. His academic collaborations include co-authorship with Larry Mayer and others, with a focus on sonar data processing and seabed mapping.
