Semion Sidorenko is a PhD student and academic assistant at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the Laboratory for the History of Science and Technology (LHST) in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences within the College of Humanities. He holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from EPFL and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from the University of Lausanne (UNIL).
His research lies at the intersection of science and technology studies, digital humanities, and critical data studies. Trained as a machine learning and data engineer, he now conducts ethnographic studies on digital data practices within public administrations, exploring how data systems are designed, implemented, and governed in governmental contexts.
Semion has contributed to teaching as a teaching assistant for the Critical Data Studies course and has professional experience as a Lead Data Engineer at Le Temps, a project manager for the Vaud canton’s COVID-19 contact tracing system, and as an independent consultant in data science and backend development. His interdisciplinary background enables a unique socio-technical perspective on digital transformation in public institutions.
He is actively engaged in academic and cultural initiatives, including co-founding Radio 40, performing as a DJ/producer, and participating in digital culture collectives. His work reflects a strong commitment to critically examining the societal implications of data and technology.
