About
Laure Segurel is a CNRS Researcher (Chargé de Recherche) at the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1, within the UMR 5558 Biometry and Evolutionary Biology (LBBE) laboratory. Previously, she held positions at UMR 7206 Eco-anthropology in Paris (2013–2020) and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Chicago (2010–2013). Her academic background includes a PhD in genetic anthropology from UPMC (2006–2010) and degrees from the European Magisterium of Genetics (2003–2006).
Her research focuses on population genetics, particularly human adaptation to environmental and dietary changes. Key areas include lactase persistence in Central Asian populations, microbiome evolution in Cameroon, and balancing selection mechanisms in primates and birds. She explores how cultural practices (e.g., marriage rules) and industrialization impact genetic diversity and microbial communities.
Her work spans evolutionary genomics, ancient DNA analysis, and interdisciplinary collaborations with anthropologists and microbiologists. Recent studies investigate microbial codiversification with humans and the effects of urbanization on gut microbiota composition.
