About
Seda Keskin Avci is a Professor at Koç University's Chemical and Biological Engineering Department and Director of the Nanomaterials, Energy, and Molecular Modeling Research Group (NEMO). She specializes in energy and biomedical applications of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), with over 185 publications and 14,000 citations. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and was recognized as one of the 'Outstanding Women in Chemical Engineering Across the Globe' in 2022.
Education:
- BSc and MSc in Chemical Engineering from Boğaziçi University (2004, 2006)
- PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology (2009), advised by Prof. David Sholl
Research Interests: Her work focuses on computational simulations of MOFs for gas separations, energy storage, and biomedical applications. She integrates machine learning and molecular modeling to design advanced porous materials.
Grants and Awards:
- ERC Starting Grant (COSMOS project, 2017)
- ERC Consolidator Grant (STARLET project, 2023)
- First Turkish woman engineer to receive an ERC grant in engineering (2017)
- First researcher in Türkiye to earn an ERC Consolidator Grant in process engineering (2023)
Labs/Teams: Leads the NEMO Research Group, which explores MOFs for energy and biomedical solutions. She serves on editorial boards for I&EC Research (ACS) and Chemistry – An Asian Journal (Wiley-VCH).
