Sebastián Lehuedé is Lecturer in Ethics, AI and Society at King's College London, examining digital technology governance through global social justice frameworks. His current project 'AI’s Nature' investigates connections between artificial intelligence and environmental justice through fieldwork with Indigenous and urban communities in Chile and Colombia. Previous research analyzed astronomy data governance in Chile through decolonial perspectives.
Research integrates ethnographic methods with political ecology to critique data colonialism and propose alternative digital futures. Recent publications develop frameworks for elemental AI ethics, radical reflexivity in data studies, and decolonial approaches to digital sovereignty. Work consistently centers power asymmetries in technological systems and environmental justice implications of digital infrastructures.
Affiliations include membership in the International Panel on Information Environment and fellowships at Cambridge's Centre for Governance and Human Rights. Teaches modules on Technology and Global Social Justice, co-designing Media, Technology and Environment curriculum. Public engagement includes workshops on data center activism and collaborations with AlgorithmWatch and Oxfam International.
