Sebastian Kranz is a Professor at Ulm University since 2014, holding the W3 Professorship for Sustainable Markets and Institutions. His research focuses on Regulatory Economics, with particular emphasis on Energy Markets, Financial Markets, and Game Theory, alongside innovative work in Interactive Teaching Tools and Research Reproduction. He maintains a blog at skranz.github.io and has developed software for creating RTutor problem sets to enhance educational and research workflows.
His academic career includes a PhD in Economics from the Bonn Graduate School of Economics (2004–2008), an MPhil in Economics from the University of Cambridge (2003–2004), and a Diplom in Economics from the University of Göttingen (2000–2003). Prior to his current role, he served as an Acting Professor at the Institute for Energy Economics, University of Cologne (2011–2012), Visiting Assistant Professor at Yale University (2010–2011), and held postdoctoral and teaching positions at the University of Bonn (2008–2010).
He has taught diverse courses including Empirical Economics, Advanced Energy Economics, Industrial Organization, and Antitrust Law & Economics at institutions such as the University of Cologne, Yale University, and the University of Bonn. His work bridges economic theory with practical tools for education and policy analysis, and he actively contributes to academic discourse through his blog and software projects.
