Prof. Sebastian Klus is the Academic Dean of Social Work and Professor for Concepts and Methods of Social Work at the Catholic University Freiburg (since 2020). He also serves as Director of the B.A. Social Work program. He holds a PhD in Sociology from Humboldt University Berlin (2013) and a Bachelor's in Social Work from the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Freiburg (2005). His roles include Consulting Lecturer at the Hans Böckler Foundation (since 2015), former Professor of Social Work and Politics at the Cooperative State University Baden-Württemberg Villingen-Schwenningen (2014–2020), and visiting lecturer roles at institutions in Basel and Freiburg (2007–2014). He has extensive field experience as a social worker in community work (2005–2014).
Research focuses on community intervention, social city development, social work policy formation, and gender/diversity issues. Notable projects include a church-based research project in Dietenbach (2021–2022) and social space analysis in Freiburg's Tulla-Quartier (2020–2021). Collaborations involve the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Soziale Arbeit e.V. and Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg.
Teaching emphasizes scientific practices in social work and community intervention methodologies. His work bridges academic research with applied social policies, particularly in urban and community contexts.
