Sebastian Bawab is a Professor and Interim Chair in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Old Dominion University (ODU). He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University (1992), an M.S. (1986), and B.S. (1984) from SUNY Buffalo. His expertise spans kinematics/dynamics, design, CAD, biomechanics, stress analysis, and simulations.
His research focuses on engineering systems and biomechanical applications, including ACL injury mechanics, neural probe dynamics, and infant eye trauma modeling. He has led over 40 grants totaling millions, such as the $1M+ NSF-funded 'Visualization and Computer Software Enhanced Engineering Education' (2005-2008) and the $424K 'Development of a Clinically Useful Technique to Detect Subtalar Joint Instability' (2011-2012).
