Sebastian Alexander van Delden

Sebastian Alexander van Delden is the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, as well as a Professor of Computer Science at Winthrop University's College of Business and Technology.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida
• M.S. and B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida

Research Interests: Dr. van Delden specializes in Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, and Industrial Robotics. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary applications of AI and robotics in engineering and computational linguistics.

Affiliations & Leadership: He joined Winthrop University in January 2024 after serving as Dean of Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering at the College of Charleston, and as Chair at Southeastern Louisiana University and the University of South Carolina Upstate. He has taught courses such as algorithms, machine learning, robotics, and computer vision, while mentoring undergraduate researchers through collaborative publications.

Community Engagement: A dedicated Rotarian for 20 years, Dr. van Delden held leadership roles, including President of the Rotary Club of Charleston Breakfast, driving initiatives like meal packing events, community center restoration, and environmental clean-up projects.
