About
Sebastian Aland is a Professor for Modeling and Simulation at the Faculty of Computer Science/Mathematics, HTW Dresden, leading the Aland Lab which develops mathematical models for complex physical and biological systems involving moving/deforming interfaces. His work bridges mathematics, physics, and high-performance computing to address questions beyond experimental reach.
Research focuses on fluid-structure interactions in biological contexts, with key projects including:
- Pattern formation of active surfaces
- Numerical simulation of microswimmers
- Wetting of structured/elastic surfaces
- Biological cells in flow
- Marangoni flows at fluidic interfaces
- Lung development simulation
Prof. Aland teaches Computer Science (room I905) and Building Systems Engineering (M55 program) courses, with office hours held in room Z359 during summer/winter semesters. His research provides fundamental insights into dynamic interfacial systems across physics and biology.
