Dr. Sebastián Albertí Serrano is a Full Professor of Microbiology at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), where he has taught since 2003. He leads the Infection and Immunity research group at IUNICS and IDISBA, focusing on bacterial pathogenesis and antimicrobial resistance. Previously, he served as Director of Scientific and Technical Services (2005-2025) and managed the Biomedicine Area at Spain's State Research Agency (2018-2022).
His research examines bacterial virulence mechanisms and their interaction with human immune components, with continuous funding since 1999 through 2 international projects, 12 national projects (AEI/ISCIII), and 10 regional initiatives. He has supervised 11 PhD students.
Teaching responsibilities include:
- Immunology for Biology/Biochemistry/Philosophy/Medicine degrees
- Microbiology for Medical students
- Master's supervision in Advanced Microbiology
