Sean Power

Sean Power is an Associate Professor of Accounting at Manchester Business School. Previously, he held academic positions at University College Dublin and University College Cork, including Programme Director of the Master of Accounting Degree at UCD Smurfit Graduate Business School (2018–2021). He is a chartered accountant with professional practice experience.

Power holds a BComm (Accounting) from Rhodes University (Dean’s List), a first-class honours BSc (Accounting), and a PhD (Accounting) from University College Cork. His research focuses on financial reporting, corporate narratives, text analysis, and quantitative methods, with a notable emphasis on colonialism’s impact on accounting practices.

His publications explore historical audit practices, crisis-era profit warnings, and the intersection of corporate communication with colonial legacies. Recent works analyze shareholder interactions and accountability in colonial contexts. Power teaches financial reporting and analysis at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

His research trends highlight critical perspectives on accounting’s role in power structures, historical accountability mechanisms, and modern crisis communication strategies. Key contributions include longitudinal studies of corporate reporting in colonial Africa and the evolution of audit standards.
