About
Sean McClory serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology and Integrated Science, Business, and Technology at La Salle University, actively contributing to the HHMI Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program since at least Spring 2019 through Spring 2025.
His research focuses on Microbiology and Phage Genomics, utilizing Microbacterium foliorum, Gordonia rubripertincta, and Mycobacterium smegmatis as bacterial hosts for phage discovery. Through Bioinformatics and Evolutionary Science approaches, he integrates wet-lab microbiology with computational genomics to advance phage characterization.
As a core SEA-PHAGES faculty member, Dr. McClory teaches both in situ (microbiology-focused) and in silico (bioinformatics-focused) courses, mentoring over 150 undergraduate students across 12+ course sections from 2019-2025. His pedagogical framework emphasizes authentic research experiences in phage discovery and genomic analysis within the national SEA consortium.
